Professor Edgar Peltenburg

The BSA notes with sadness the passing of Professor Edgar Peltenburg (Edinburgh), who was a leading figure in the archaeology of Cyprus and the Eastern Mediterranean.  Although his work centred on Cyprus, Prof Peltenburg had a long association with the BSA: he was a School student in the 1966-67 session, an Associate student in 1987-88, and served on the School's (then) Fieldwork Committee from 2003 to 2005.  He regularly visited the BSA in Athens, where he also sent many students.  His most recent contribution was to deliver an Upper House seminar on 7 October 2011 entitled 'States of mind: Alashia and the archaeology of Late Bronze Age Cyprus'.

A short obituary has appeared at: http://cyprus-mail.com/2016/08/19/antiquities-department-issues-condolences-death-eminent-archaeologist/.

BSA in Greece

The BSA has been active in Greece for 130 years and values greatly the hospitality we have received as well as the collaborations, partnerships and friendships we have formed.  The outcome of the recent UK referendum on membership of the EU does nothing to diminish the BSA's commitment to its activities in Greece; indeed, we remain focused on developing their range and depth in the future.
