The Archive is the official repository for the records of the British School at Athens and documents the history and activities of the School. Records date from the founding of the BSA in 1886 and include documents from BSA fieldwork projects, corporate papers, personal collections of BSA members and others associated with the School, various historical documents of travellers who came to Greece before the School was founded, a unique collection of drawings of Byzantine monuments, artwork, and a large photographic collection.
The role of the Archive is to identify, acquire, manage, and preserve records of enduring value and make them available for use. It is a major resource for researchers on a variety of subjects. The collections vary in size and content and contain manuscripts, notes, notebooks, journals, diaries, photographs, memorabilia, and personal and professional correspondence.
Catalogues, finding aids and databases are provided by the Archivist. Some of the catalogues are also available on our website.
