A full house for the London Annual Open Lectures 2026
Despite the rain, last night’s Annual Open Lectures in London were a great success and very well attended with nearly 200 people with us in person and almost the same again watching online. After a comprehensive round up of the BSA’s research activities in 2025 by BSA Director Rebecca Sweetman, our guest speaker Mary Beard gave great insight into the history of women in the early years of the BSA and the impact of Jane Harrison’s book ‘Mythology and Monuments of Ancient Athens’, 1890.
Thank you to our brilliant speakers and Chair of Council Roderick Beaton, to Gonda Van Steen at King’s College London for hosting us in the Great Hall, and to all of our supporters, members, alumni, councillors, committee members, and research colleagues for joining us.
Next stop, Thessaloniki on the 17th February with guest lecturer Andrew Bevan, followed by Athens on the 19th February.
