Welcome to our Scientific Research Officer
We are delighted to welcome Dr Artemios Oikonomou as the BSA Fitch Laboratory’s Scientific Research Officer.
Artemios writes:
Hello, my name is Artemios Oikonomou, and I am an archaeological scientist with a strong background in Physics and Materials Science. My research focuses on the application of state-of-the-art scientific and archaeometric techniques to the study of ancient materials, with particular emphasis on glass and ceramics.
I am truly excited to take on my new role as Scientific Research Officer at the Fitch Laboratory, where I will be responsible for the WD-XRF facility while also actively supporting the laboratory’s day-to-day operations. Alongside these responsibilities, I aim to complete two interdisciplinary research projects related to the scientific study of ceramics and glass, namely Reconstructing Technology, Economy, and Trade in Hellenistic Epirus through Pottery (RETEP) and Aegean on the crossroad of glass distribution. Evidence from the proto Byzantine period (ACROGLASS).
We wish Artemios well in his role and are happy to be working with him – “Καλή αρχή!”
