Strengthening Collaboration Between the BSA & Charles University in Prague
Earlier this year, the British School at Athens (BSA) and Charles University in Prague entered into a two-year agreement (launched in February) to host Dr Petra Tušlová at the Fitch Laboratory as part of her MSCA CZ Fellowship. The project is now well underway and we are delighted to continue highlighting its goals: advancing research into pottery production, circulation, and technological transfer in the Roman-period Balkans, and—crucially—encouraging deeper interaction and future collaboration between academic communities in Czechia, Greece, and the UK. In this spirit, several Czech-based scholars will visit Athens to present their current research and engage with local specialists in a series of public talks:
19/11/2025 – Fitch Wiener Seminar
Dr Marek Verčík (Institute of Classical Archaeology, Charles University)
“Collapse – Transformation – Rise? Dynamics of Environmental Changes between the Balkans and the Aegean in the Late Bronze and Early Iron Ages.”
10/12/2025 – Fitch Wiener Seminar
Dr Richard Thér (University of Hradec Králové)
“Structural and Surface Analysis as a Key to Pottery Forming Techniques.”
02/03/2026 – Upper House Seminar Series
Prof Peter Pavúk (Institute of Classical Archaeology, Charles University)
– Talk details coming soon!
We look forward to welcoming these colleagues to Athens and to furthering the collaborative spirit at the core of Dr Tušlová’s fellowship.
