Dr. Bastien Rueff is the manager of the Knossos Stratigraphical Museum Curatorial Project. The project involves the archiving, cataloguing, and documenting the material of the Knossos Stratigraphical Museum collection as well digitizing these materials into the BSA Digital Collection.
Bastien studied Aegean Prehistory at the University Paris 1 Panthéon-Sorbonne where he graduated with a Ph.D. in October 2020. His dissertation addressed the function of Minoan lamps as well as the rhythm and location of activities in light of their flames. As a postdoctoral associate researcher with the laboratory ARSCAN, his research focuses on the means of lighting, heating and perfuming in the Bronze Age Aegean through a comprehensive study of fireboxes, incense burners, braziers, braseros, portable hearths, torches and lamps. He participated in several fieldwork projects on the Greek mainland, in Crete, Turkey and France and is especially involved in the French Archaeological Mission at Malia (Chrysolakkos, Pi Area).
