Now open: Fitch Laboratory Bursary Awards 2019-2020
Applications are invited from graduate students or young scholars for an award to support research at the Fitch Laboratory, British School at Athens (BSA) for up to 3 months in the academic year (September 2019-June 2020).
Lefkandi Textile on display in the National Archaeological Museum
The British School at Athens is delighted to note that one of the most spectacular finds of the later 20th century is currently on display (until Sunday 5 May 2019) in the National Archaeological Museum of Athens in its ‘Invisible Museum’ series.
Justin Davies (1931-2018; BSA Treasurer 1990-1997)
The BSA was saddened to learn of the passing on 1 December of Justin Davies, BSA Treasurer in the 1990s.
New course at the Fitch Lab: Glass in the Mediterranean and the Near East
The BSA is pleased to announce a new five-day course at the Fitch Laboratory, Glass in the Mediterranean and the Near East: Archaeology and Archaeometry from the Late Bronze Age to the early Medieval period.
Introduction to Ceramic Petrology Course 2019
From 13-24 May 2019, the Fitch Laboratory will hold a two-week postgraduate training course providing an introduction to ceramic petrology, building upon the Laboratory’s expertise on ceramic petrology applications and its extensive reference collections of geological and ceramic thin sections.

BSA holiday closure dates
The Library will be closed to Readers and Visitors (not Members) from Monday 24th December 2018 to Wednesday 2nd January 2019 inclusively. The Library reopens on Thursday 3rd January 2019. The Offices will be closed from Monday 24th to Wednesday 26th December and from Monday 31st December 2018 to Wednesday 2nd January 2019 inclusively.
